This site safety induction is compulsory for all contractors and new staff members. You must complete this induction before you first arrive at the Simtars Redbank facility. Please note that visitors are exempt from this induction, as they will be accompanied by a staff member whenever on site.
If you are conducting maintenance or other contracting work, you must provide a minimum of 24 hours notice before attending the Simtars Redbank site. If you don't provide adequate notice, you may be asked to leave the site and return at a time convenient to Simtars. Please note that contracting work can be conducted between 6am and 4:30pm, Monday to Friday. After hours work is permitted with prior arrangement with Simtars Maintenance.
Read through the information carefully to ensure you are aware of our policies and procedures. This will help minimise the risk of accidents and injuries onsite.
At the end of the induction, please select the appropriate radio button to indicate the type of induction being submitted. All contractors will be required to upload a job-specific safe work method statement (SWMS) addressing all work being undertaken. This is a mandatory upload field and you will need to provide a SWMS or job safety analysis (JSA) before starting work. Accepted formats are MS Word or PDF. When working at the Redbank facility, you have a duty of care to yourself and others. This means you must:
Access to some areas of the Redbank site is restricted at certain times. Make sure you contact Simtars Maintenance on 0436 646 815 to get access to restricted areas.

Before starting work, consider the tasks you’ll be performing and identify any potential additional risks, including those that might not be detailed in your safe work method statement (SWMS).

Simtars has a number of risk management requirements for any contractor working onsite.
You must provide a documented assessment of work to us a minimum of 24 hours before you start work. This can include:
The SWMS component of this induction is mandatory and you must upload a Word or PDF version of your SWMS or JSA in order to complete the induction form. If you don't have your own SWMS or JSA, you can complete the Simtars SWMS form.
Any SWMS or JSA that you provide is subject to acceptance by Simtars Maintenance and must be reviewed and signed off before you start work.
You may also provide evidence of a current workers compensation insurance policy and public liability insurance at the end of this induction, although it is not mandatory.
If a safe work method statement (SWMS) needs to be varied after you have started work, you must stop work and discuss this with a member of the Simtars Maintenance team.
Do not continue work until the SWMS or job safety analysis (JSA) has been varied and you have obtained written approval to continue.

To ensure your safety, especially during site-wide evacuations, we require that you sign in and out at Reception whenever entering or leaving the Simtars site.
Contractors must ensure that work is conducted in accordance with the agreed safe work method statement (SWMS), and that their staff are aware of the agreed safe work method and sign off on the document accordingly.
Any variations to agreed work methods must have the prior approval of Simtars Maintenance.
Visitors and contractors must wear their identification sticker badge at all times while onsite. If for any reason the sticker does not adhere to your clothes, you may carry it in your pocket, but you must be able to produce it if a staff member (or Specialised Security Services if working after hours) asks you. New staff members do not need an identification sticker badge if they have completed their induction.
It’s important that you work safely at all times. We will not allow:
Any of these actions will result in Simtars directing work to cease until further notice.
Serious issues may result in contractors being directed to leave the site until further notice.
All incidents must be reported. For incidents involving contractors, these must be reported to Simtars Maintenance immediately. For incidents involving Simtars staff, these must be reported to the persons manager and or the Simtars Safety Officer immediately. All incidents will be recorded in the SMART system for investigation, escalation (where required) and resolution.
Types of incidents include:
When working at Simtars, you must provide a certificate of competence or current licence for equipment such as lifting equipment and forklifts.
If required, use guards (where fitted) and include the details of these in the safe work method statement (SWMS).
Ensure that any electrical equipment brought onsite is tested and tagged within a current date. Any equipment not tested and tagged must not be used.
Do not use any damaged or possibly faulty equipment. If you're unsure, ask a member of the Simtars Maintenance team.
If you intend to use hazardous materials, hazardous substances or dangerous goods, you must:
Roof access is restricted. Simtars Maintenance must approve any work performed at roof level and complete a formal risk assessment before you attend the site. Details of working at heights training and other relevant information should be detailed in the safe work method statement (SWMS) or job safety analysis (JSA).
Ladders must be tied off or otherwise secured. Elevated work platforms (EWPs) must be operated safely and licences produced for inspection. Fall restraint gear may be required, depending on the work being performed and the roof being accessed.
Power tools must be tested and tagged (if not battery operated). When using power tools:
Ensure you consider the risks and follow safe practices when excavating.
An excavation permit is required if excavating > 0.5m.
Consider how you will isolate:
We do a range of testing onsite that involves explosive forces and heavy equipment.
This testing will generally be accompanied by a siren blast and flashing light.
Just before testing commences, there will be an intercom announcement to advise site of what and when the testing will take place.
Flashing warning lights are also used to increase visibility of more hazardous areas and plant or equipment during operation — for example, the forklift, gantry crane, propagation tube testing (MSTRC) and flameproof test bay (TTCC).
Because our testing work involves dusts and other hazardous situations, it’s essential that you use and wear the correct PPE at all times when working at Simtars.

Green and white signs indicate the location of safety showers and eyewash stations.

Green and white signs through the site indicate the location of, or direction to, emergency-related facilities, exits, first aid equipment, etc.
Red and white signs indicate the location of, or direction to, the fire-related facilities and equipment.
In an emergency, all staff, visitors and tradespeople on the Redbank site will evacuate on the first alarm tone. We do not wait for the second alarm tone.
Our marshalling point is the large grass area to the left of the gate on Montgomery Street. It is marked with an assembly point sign in green and white.
When evacuating, staff and any visitors or tradespeople on site must make their way to the marshalling point using the safest route possible, making sure to follow the directions given by the fire wardens on site.
