Cambodia Government delegation visits Simtars in July 2022

31 August 2022

On the 19 July 2022, Simtars hosted 23 staff from Cambodia’s Ministry of Mines and Energy, two representatives from the WWF and Oxfam and three Queensland University of Technology (QUT) staff.

This visit was part of a QUT led project funded by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade to help Cambodia establish a robust regulatory framework for their emerging mining sector, which mainly consists of hard rock.

The delegation was introduced to the various projects being conducted by Simtars’ Mine Safety Technology Research Centre and the health and safety monitoring work performed by the Occupational Hygiene, Environment and Chemistry Centre before touring Simtars’ facilities. After witnessing a demonstration of the propagation tube, the delegation met with guest speakers from CSIRO, Position Partners, ACARP and Voconiq who introduced the group to innovations in mine safety including automation technology, the use of drones in mining, how research is funded in the mining industry, and the importance of community engagement.

It was fantastic to see international visitors back at Simtars after the long break caused by the global pandemic.
