Sexual harassment

Sexual harassment in any form is unacceptable and must not be tolerated anywhere, including in our workplaces. As part of Resources Safety and Health Queensland’s (RSHQ) commitment to worker safety and health, we work with Queensland’s resources industry to support the effective risk management of psychosocial hazards, including sexual harassment.

What is sexual harassment?

Sexual harassment is a psychosocial hazard that includes any unwelcome sexual advance, request for sexual favours, or other conduct of a sexual nature. It occurs in circumstances where a reasonable person, considering all the circumstances, would expect the behaviour to offend, humiliate or intimidate the person being harassed.

Examples of behaviours that may indicate sexual harassment include:

  • unwelcome touching or physical contact, such as hugging, cornering or kissing
  • suggestive comments, inappropriate jokes, insults or taunts
  • unwanted invitations to go on dates or requests for sexual activity, in person or online
  • sending or displaying sexually offensive pictures, posters or materials
  • sending sexually explicit emails, text messages or social media posts.

Sexual harassment can occur in any work location or accommodation, at work-related events, or by phone, email or online communication.
