Update on incident at Crinum coal mine

Please attribute the following to an RSHQ spokesperson:

“On Saturday 12 September 2026, a worker was critically injured in an accident at Crinum coal mine.  

Preliminary information indicates the incident involved maintenance work to address the failure of a component of a pressurised compressed-air pipeline system and subsequent contact between the worker and a drift runner.   

RSHQ is investigating the incident and we have issued directives to isolate the scene and suspend certain operations until they can be performed to an acceptable level of risk. 

We have also released a safety alert to industry with preliminary information and guidance to support sites in identifying and addressing immediate safety risks.”
