Cracker fireworks display in store for the Ekka

09 August 2024

More than 10,000 fireworks are ready to go off with a bang during this year's Royal Queensland Show.

Resources Safety and Health Queensland (RSHQ) explosives inspectors have been undergoing the final checks to ensure the display is safe for the public.

RSHQ Explosives Inspector Raymond Stewart said months of preparation have gone into the event.

"We work closely with the contractors and operators to make sure the display is as exciting as it can be, while maintaining safety standards over the nine nights," said Mr Stewart.

"The fireworks will be fired remotely using an electronic firing unit, allowing the display to be choreographed with precision."

There'll be a fireworks show every night around 7:50pm during the main event called 'EkkaNITES', which finishes with the explosives display.

RSHQ is also responsible for the checking gas safety compliance of food vendors.

Inspectors will be looking at gas cylinders and gas appliances to ensure there are no leaks.

Gas explosions have led to serious and lifelong injuries in the past, but with the right checks and precautions, that can be avoided.
