Safety checks underway for Riverfire 2024

29 August 2024

Thousands of fireworks have been inspected today for safety compliance, before Saturday's Riverfire event.

Each year Resources Safety and Health Queensland (RSHQ) inspectors authorise the spectacular fireworks displays to ensure the multi-venue pyrotechnic show is up to code.

In 2024 there will be 6,258 fireworks ignited from 15 locations around Brisbane including the Story Bridge, the Goodwill Bridge and several rooftops.

RSHQ will have inspectors on duty conducting inspections until the end of the display on Saturday night.

More than 1,500 hours of preparation goes into the fireworks display at Riverfire.

"Riverfire is one of Australia's most logistically-complex events," said RSHQ Senior Inspector of Explosives Raymond Stewart.

"Foti Fireworks Queensland Pty Ltd is back for another year to run the pyrotechnic show and we work closely with them to make sure it's a fun but safe event."

Riverfire kicks off the opening night of the Brisbane Festival on Saturday 31 August.
